What to Expect at Your Dermal Filler Procedure

During the consultation our specialist will discuss your areas of concern.  They will suggest an approach that will increase symmetry and balance to your natural beauty.  There are many types of dermal fillers, our specialist will select the most appropriate to give the volume that will best match your expectations.

Dermal fillers are injected using a very fine needle.  You will experience some pain when getting dermal fillers in the most sensitive areas like your lips.  We minimize this by applying a strong numbing cream prior to the injection.  Also, our dermal fillers have lidocaine mixed in so the procedure gets more comfortable as more product is injected.

When Will You See Results?

Dermal fillers give results immediately.  These products will continue to enhance over the following week.  Typically, dermal fillers will last for about 6 months to a year but this depends on the type of product and the area being injected. Follow up injections are needed to maintain your desired look.  If you choose not to have follow up, the enhanced area will slowly return to its original appearance.

How Long is the Recovery Time?

As a non-surgical therapy, dermal fillers often allow you to return to daily life right after treatment.  There may be mild redness, swelling, itching or bruising of the injected areas.  If necessary, a cold compress and make up are usually enough to allow you to continue your day.

Complications

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin.  So adding more rarely will cause an allergic reaction.  Tindling, a bluish hue, may be seen in areas of thin skin. This effect is rare when an experienced clinician is injecting product.  Pinching or blocking a blood vessel can occur but is rare.  Seeing a Registered Nurse or Physician with special training in facial anatomy and cosmetics minimizes this risk.  This list is not meant to be exhaustive.  Further discussion during your consultation will focus on your questions to ensure you are informed and comfortable before starting.

Before the procedure it is recommended not to take anti-inflammatory medications or drink alcohol as this can increase the chance of bruising and bleeding.  After the procedure it is advised to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption and excessive heat or sun exposure for a full day. Try not touch, rub or massage the area to allow the body to recover as quickly as possible.

We know it can be disappointing to have to rebook an appointment.  But if our specialist thinks it might be risky to use dermal fillers on the day of your consultation they will discuss when it

would be a good time to return.  Of course we love to make our patients feel confident and beautiful but our first priority is to make this a safe experience.
