Laser Hair Removal!
Laser hair removal is a great way to get rid of that 5 o'clock shadow on your legs and overtime will make hair growth thinner and less visible. One common misconception that a lot of patients have, is that laser hair removal is permanent. Although laser hair removal is great and will minimize the amount of hair growth it is not a permanent solution. It has a 40-80% reduction in hair growth and most patients will need at least 8 sessions at 4-8 week intervals.
Our hair grows in three different stages :
Anagen
Catalan
Telogen
It is only during the growing phase (Anagen), that hair effectively reacts to the treatment . Not all hair follicles will be in the Anagen stage, this is why multiple treatments are needed.
Some patients who suffer from PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), also suffer from an excess growth of facial, back and chest hair. This hair tends to be coarser and thicker than typical female body hair. This symptom may cause emotional distress and self-esteem issues. Laser hair removal is still an option, but due to the fact that these patients produce higher than normal amounts of male hormones they will most likely need more laser sessions and may notice approximately 40% hair reduction.
Having suffered from symptoms of PCOS myself, I've had a series of laser hair removal treatments performed. I do still have hair growth in some areas, however the hair is a lot lighter in colour and less course as before and much easier to maintain.

What to expect?
PAIN
As far as pain with laser hair removal, I would say it feels like an elastic band snap accompanied with heat. Patient may become a bit flush in these areas accompanied with slight follicular edema, this usually subsides within 1-4 hours post treatment. Also during the treatment patient might notice a unique smell, this is due to the hair being heated during the light process. We like to refer to this as:

POST CARE
In the first 24-48 hours we advise against exercise, excessive sweating, hot showers, saunas, shaving, exfoliating, active ingredients, applying makeup, or scented lotions to the treatment area.
It is best to avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks before & after the procedure. It is best to wear an
SPF 30 or higher at all times.
