WHAT THE HECK IS "TECH NECK" ?

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

Hello Skin Worthy fans, it's your trend guru Nicole here.

Have you heard the term "TECH NECK"?

And thought to yourself:

a) what the heck is "tech neck"

b) that sounds terrible

c) I hope I don't have it

d) all of the above

Look no further, I am here to give you the deets.

Tech neck refers to that pesky head tilt/ 30 degree neck craning you do while oogling your phone. You know that literal pain in your neck from looking down at your smart phone? THAT is tech neck. For those of you reading this on a smartphone, STRAIGHTEN UP!

The neck and décolletage are particularly delicate areas of the body and they are constantly battling gravity. Our posture is now having an effect on the wrinkles we do our damnedest to prevent. The skin in these areas is very sensitive and produces less oil than the face. It also receives more sun exposure than other areas of the body. Many of us neglect to apply skincare and sunscreen to anything south of the jawline. Sun damage and clogged pores do not discriminate! Without the proper preventative measures your neck and chest will age while your face prevails. Do not fall victim! Here are some tips to keep the proverbial facial curtains matching their southern counterparts.

CHIN UP!

Your parents are right, you're always glued to that dang phone. Other than giving you anxiety and emitting harmful HEV light which can lead to inflammation, impaired healing, skin sensitivity, dryness, wrinkles, uneven tone and texture, and sagging skin, your phone also promotes bad posture. Craning your neck to look down at your phone causes horizontal neck & chest wrinkles, back pain, neck tingling/numbness and headaches. Reposition your phone higher and away from your chest, eye level gazing is key!

SUNSCREEN IS YOUR FRIEND

Sunscreen is one of the best anti-aging products of all time, spread the wealth and protect yourself. The neck and décolletage have very thin and sensitive skin. This skin contains a limited amount of melanocytes which are the cells that protect your skin from UV rays. Always use an SPF of 30 or higher and remember to reapply accordingly. Note: using a BB Cream or foundation with SPF does not count as putting on sunscreen- typically blending this product onto the neck area will not provide sufficient protection.

TREAT YOUR NECK THE WAY YOUR FACE LIKES TO BE TREATED

Put some respect on your neck (and décolletage). You would not (and should not) go to bed with makeup or sunscreen on your face, treat your neck the same.

Skin Worthy offers the neck and décolletage as an add on area for all of our most popular treatments.

Neck filler? We got you!

Laser? No problem!

V2 Beauty Booster? Done, add some PRP to that for a potent anti-aging cocktail.

Chemical Peel, DermalInfusion... WE DO IT ALL!

Positive aging is not limited to the facial area and your neck/décolletage will always call your bluff. There are already so many factors working against our skin such as age, stress, gravity, pollution, and UV damage. We must maintain a united front and provide adequate care to all areas of skin.

At Skin Worthy, we value educating our patients on their skin concerns, if you are looking to treat your neck/décolletage or would like to learn more, we encourage you to come in for a complimentary consultation. We will discuss your goals, assess your skin and decide the best plan of action for your specific needs.
